Registration

Alhamdulillah, it’s that time again!

All praise and thanks are due to Allah the Most Generous the Most Benevolent.

We are happy to welcome you all back to a new Central Virginia Quran Competition.


Rules

  • Age Restrictions: Categories A, B, C, and D have specific age limits. Participants who exceed the age limit for a category will not be eligible for awards in that category.
  • One Category Per Year: Participants may compete in only one category per year.
  • Eligibility: Imams and Professional Hufadh are not permitted to participate in the competition.
  • Attendance Requirement: All winners must be present at the Award Ceremony to receive their awards, prizes, and trophies. If a winner is absent, the runner-up will be awarded the prize, trophy, and title in their place.

Photo Disclosure

By attending the Central Virginia Quran Competition, you acknowledge and agree that photographs and videos may be taken during the event. These images may be used for promotional purposes in future materials, including but not limited to our website, social media, and other event-related publications.

Rubrics

Memorization Competition Rubric

The memorization will be judged according to the rules of Riwayat Hafs ‘an ‘Asim.

In each category, the contestants will be asked to recite three different questions it could be three Surahs or sections from three Surahs selected by the judges, If contestants fail to recite any of the three questions they automatically receive 0 points in the question they did not recite.

The grades are 100 points and will be determined as follows:

The quality of the memorization. 75 points (25 points for each question)
The quality of the memorization includes knowing the name of the surah

The proper pronunciation of the letters and words. 15 points (5 points for each question) The proper pronunciation of the letters and words  includes articulating each makhraj correctly and proper pronunciation of the vowels (fatha, damma, kasrah, and tanween) the saken and mushadad (with shaddah) letters

Tarteel (rhythm), presentation and ability to control the voice. 10 points (For general recitation)

½ point will be deducted for each warning and a 1 point for each correction.

The Contestants must receive a minimum score of 85% in memorization to qualify for an honorable mention trophy.


Reading Competition Rubric

The reading contest for 2025: Surat Al-Anbiya (Chapter 21)

The grades are 100 points and will be determined as follows:

A- The quality of Reading including ……………………………………………………………. 80%

Proper pronunciation of the letters and words (articulate correctly each makhraj ) 

Proper pronunciation of The vowels ( Fatha, Damma, Kasrah, and Tanween) The saken and Mushadad (with Shaddah) letters

Proper pronunciation of Al-Lam Al-Shamsiyah and Al –Lam Al-Qamariyah

Rules of Waqf (Stop).Noon and Meem Mushadad

Common Madds and Hamza-tu Al-Wasl

B- The Tarteel (rhythm), presentation and ability to control the voice……………..15%

C- The Etiquette (Adab) of reading the Quran ……………………………………………….5%

The Contestants must receive a minimum score of 85% in reading to qualify as a winner.

Those participating in all Tots categories must be within the described age range to win.

The CVQC reserves all rights to use images taken during the testing and award ceremonies.
